I'm sometimes asked about the "R" in HVAC/R. It stands for Refrigeration, which is usually associated with restaurants and other industries with the need for low temperature requirements, such as grocery stores, hospitals, specialized laboratories and manufacturing facilities. Your standard residential air conditioner is actually performing what we call "high temp" refrigeration, with an average target supply temp of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Other examples include "medium temp" such as walk in coolers, "low temp" systems like walk in freezers, and "ultra low temp" (specialty applications).
